Water levels have risen at the coal mine where at least nine workers were trapped in Assam's Umrangso area and Indian Navy deep divers were called in to assist the rescue operation, Prime Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday.
The Indian Navy divers have flown from Visakhapatnam and are expected to reach Umrangso soon.

Meanwhile, a task force of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles reached Umrangso in Dima Hasao district of Assam, where at least nine workers were trapped in a coal mine, officials said on Tuesday.
A senior Army official said, “The Task Force of engineers with equipment, divers and medical teams of #IndianArmy and #AssamRifles have joined the rescue efforts in Umrangso, Assam. All efforts are being carried out in close coordination with the civil administration.”
Earlier on Monday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said at least nine workers trapped in a coal mine in Umrango town have been identified.
The state administration and police have launched an operation to rescue the trapped workers in the mine.
According to police, one of the nine workers still trapped in the coal mine is a Nepali national, one is from West Bengal and the rest are from different parts of Assam. They have been identified as Ganga Bahadur Shreth, Hussain Ali, Jakir Hussain, Sarpa Barman, Mustafa Seikh, Khusi Mohan Rai, Sanjit Sarkar, Lijan Magar and Sarat Goyary. The state administration sought help from the army in the rescue operation.
