The answer to the chaos within Congress is decentralization, Shashi Tharoor said shortly after submitting his nomination for party chairman today. Speaking to reporters, he explained his vision for Congress as head of the party. “I will change the culture of the party’s high command,” he said.
He identified the practice of “constantly redirecting things to Delhi” as a problem, saying the party can’t have anyone passing resolutions in one sentence saying the congress president will decide.
Some of the ‘G-23’ dissidents who had written to Sonia Gandhi to demand internal polls and stable leadership were the first to throw in their hat to the party’s top post.
Calling Mallikarjun Kharge, the “official” Gandhis-backed candidate, a candidate of continuity, he said he will bring a new perspective and approach.
Mr Kharge has been supported by most senior leaders, including several G-23 leaders. Rajasthan chief minister and party supreme commander’s first choice for the top post Ashok Gehlot has said “all senior leaders” support Mr Kharge.
“I’m not surprised that the establishment is behind those who represent the status quo. If you want change and progress in the party, vote for me,” he said, adding that he intends to get people on the grassroots. work to give them more power.

Outlining his vision, he said he aims to rejuvenate the party, reshape its leadership, reiterate its core ideology, broaden participation, focus on youth and return to a politics of social work.
In an interview with DailyExpertNews, Mr Tharoor revealed today that Sonia Gandhi had told him “you are welcome to enter” and that there would be no “official candidate” as her family would remain neutral.
The Congressman also claimed he is not the G-23 candidate for the election, the party’s first in more than 20 years.
“I need the support of 9,100 people, not 23. I’m not the G-23 candidate. It’s a myth, there’s no such thing,” he said.
