Akola:
A woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her 20-day-old ailing daughter in Maharashtra’s Akola district, police said Tuesday.
The woman, 26, a resident of Wadi Adampur village, along with her maternal uncle, had taken her daughter to Telhara Rural Hospital for treatment last month, they said.
Doctors referred the child to the district hospital in Akola for further treatment, police said.
However, the girl was pronounced dead at the district hospital and an autopsy later revealed the newborn baby had been strangled, they said, and the motive behind the murder was not yet known.
The woman was arrested and charged with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, police said.
On Tuesday, she was brought before a local court that sent her into police custody for two days.
Further investigations were underway, Assistant Police Inspector Dyanoba Phad said.
