The outcry led to the suspension of three police officers involved.
Bhopal:
A woman in Narsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh clung to the hood of a police car in an attempt to avoid her son’s arrest, police said. However, the police drove the car and only stopped after they reached the police station half a kilometer away.
The incident took place in the Gotegaon area of Narsinghpur on Monday. Police were in the process of taking the woman’s son, an alleged drug trafficker, to the police station when she intervened.
The police had received a tip that drug dealers were active in a certain part of the village. They set a trap and caught two people, including the woman’s son. The woman, who sells flowers nearby, saw his son being taken away, jumped on the hood of the police car and refused to let go. The police, instead of stopping, drove all the way to the police station, 500 meters away, with the woman still clutched to the hood.
Local residents who witnessed the act recorded the incident and shared it on social media, making it go viral. The outcry led to a departmental inquiry into the incident. Home Minister Narottam Mishra of Madhya Pradesh told DailyExpertNews that three police officers have been suspended.
