This mango has gained much acclaim for showcasing the incredible variety of mangoes available in India
The only thing that makes the sweltering summer heat bearable is the fact that it coincides with the season of the “King of fruits” – mango. For a mango lover like me, the world may be upside down, but we need mangoes on the plates. Juicy, fleshy, refreshing and flavorful in different varieties, eating mangoes is almost therapeutic.
If 77 varieties of mangoes are found in one place, then it must be considered heaven for mango lovers. One was organized by Konda Laxman Bapuji’s research organization in Sangareddy, Medak district. Mango farmers from all over the country participated in this exhibition. 77 kinds of mangoes like Banginapalli, Dasehara, Mahmood, Manjira, Rose, Royal Special, Amrapali, Asif Pasand, Mallika, Prabhat Shankar, Niluddin, Neelishan, Kalipari, Rangoon Goa, Neel Goa, Kesar, Suvarnarekha, Swarna Jahangir, Ratna etc here exhibited. Tenneru is also available because it is a unique variety where each fruit weighs about 1.8 kg.
This exhibit was organized as part of a fruit research initiative to educate people about the country’s lesser-known mango varieties. Scientist Suchitra said, “This program is organized to raise awareness among the local farmers and common people. We have 467 varieties of mango, but only 77 varieties were harvested this year, so we have exhibited only 77 varieties this year. Less rainfall than last year year caused the mango trees to yield less.”
She added: “Farmers also discussed with us the issues they face when growing new mango varieties. It is being answered by our team of experts. Research is being done on mango, guava, custard apple, apricot and dragon fruit. organized to increase the awareness of the varieties in the field of fruit research.Of the 426 kinds sold here, mainly 20 kinds of mango plants are sold in the nursery.There is a particular demand for five kinds of mangoes in the market.If growers get the need other varieties, they must inform the nursery in advance.”
Mango lovers and mango farmers flocked to this exhibition and were amazed by the many types and varieties of mango on display.
