According to the researchers, the edema was caused by hyponatremia. Their study published in the Clinical Kidney Journal claims that Bruce Lee died because his kidneys were “not expelling extra water.”
According to recent studies and findings, hyponatremia may be the cause of his death. It is caused when a person drinks more water than necessary and dilutes sodium levels in the body. As a result, the cells in the body, especially those in the brain, become swollen due to an imbalance. According to the journal, the conclusion the scientists reached was, “We hypothesize that Bruce Lee died of a specific form of renal dysfunction: the inability to excrete enough water to maintain water homeostasis, which is primarily a tubular function.”
