As COVID-19 cases continue to rise around the world, it is critical to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus. As new variants emerge, it is important to remain vigilant and follow recommended guidelines from health authorities. The current state of COVID-19 calls for the following necessary precautions to be taken to protect themselves and their communities. By staying informed and taking the necessary actions, we can work together to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect public health.
Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Grover, Head, Critical Care & Pulmonology, CK Birla Hospital, Gurgaon, says“In recent days there have been reports of a new Covid variant – the XBB.1.16 – and we have also witnessed a steady increase in Covid cases being reported to us from all over Delhi – NCR. Many infected patients are currently asymptomatic, but those who do develop have similar known symptoms such as fever, cough, and fatigue, along with other symptoms such as shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, body aches and pains, sore throat, runny nose, chest pain and headache.
While there has been a gradual rise in the number of Covid cases reported each day, doctors have not yet noticed any serious symptoms to panic. “The main symptoms of the majority of patients are fever and cough, and they often also experience symptoms similar to those of the flu, such as cough, headache, sore throat, runny nose and shortness of breath. Due to the similarities in these symptoms, the public has become confused as both flu and cold symptoms are similar in many ways,” notes Ashutosh Shukla, medical consultant and senior director, internal medicine, Max Hospital, Gurugram.
The increasing number of Covid-19 infections is a strong reminder that we must remain cautious in our fight against this virus. High risk individuals suffering from comorbidities such as diabetes, BP, hypertension should consult their doctor and should not ignore signs and symptoms, they should take extra care. It is still advised and crucial for the general public to remain cautious and protect themselves by following Covid precautions such as donning masks when travelling, avoiding crowded areas, having throat swabs taken, regularly cleaning hands and face, avoiding crowded and poorly ventilated environments, avoiding spitting in public areas, limiting travel when sick or showing symptoms, and maintaining proper self-hygiene and sanitization.
