Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease caused when the Aedes aegypti mosquito bites a human. The viral illness begins with a mild to severe fever that can be treated with timely medical care. Dengue usually occurs in tropical and subtropical regions. If not detected in time, the disease can be fatal for some. India’s capital is witnessing a rise in Dengue cases every day. In the month of March, Delhi registered 22 cases of dengue with a total of 61 cases since the beginning of the year. The number of cases is the highest in the state since 2017 and is worrying authorities. It is important to know everything about Dengue to avoid being infected by the viral infection.

Prevention of Dengue
As they say, prevention is better than cure. It is always better to keep the environment clean to avoid the breeding of mosquitoes in the area. Follow these simple tips to avoid the infection and protect yourself from it.
- Always use mosquito repellent, even when you are indoors.
- When going out, try to wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants with your feet covered.
- Keep it cool indoors by using an air conditioner if possible.
- Keep windows and doors closed to prevent mosquitoes from entering. Use a net door for ventilation.
- Use mosquito nets while sleeping.
- If you see any symptoms of dengue, call your doctor.
- Do not store water in tires, cans, jars or tanks in or near your home.
- Change the water from the air cooler every day.
