There will never be anyone like Princess Diana. Aside from her philanthropic work, she was also frequently featured in the headlines for her exceptional sartorial choices. But did you know there was one brand, Chanel, that she didn’t want to wear anymore? According to a report from Harper’s Bazaar, the reason behind this is related to her divorce from King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla. An Australian designer named Jayson Brundson in 2018 recalled one of his previous interactions with Princess Diana in 1996. While interacting with the magazine, he revealed that he had a close acquaintance with Joh Bailey, who was Diana’s appointed hairdresser at the time.
The princess had recently separated from King Charles and Joh Bailey would visit Ritz Carlton, where she was staying, every day to get her hair done. Since Jayson was a huge fan of the princess, Joh made the former an offer to help him one day. Recounting the incident, the designer stated that the place was filled with bodyguards and that the duo waited patiently in the living room for Princess Diana. Joh was reportedly overjoyed when she saw her walking towards them. Apparently the princess was getting ready for a hospital visit and didn’t know what to wear.
He said, “She said, ‘I’m going to wear a Versace cream skirt.’ It was a tight-fitting jacket and a pencil skirt, and she said, “But I don’t know what accessories to wear with it.” It was then that Joh suggested the princess help Jayson. She agreed and explored a few things in her closet to show them to the Australian designer. Reportedly, Princess Diana returned with a handful of shoes and bags, threw them all on the couch, and asked Jayson for his help.

When the Australian designer picked out a Chanel shoe, Diana declined, stating that she should not wear anything related to Cs. “So I asked why, and she said, ‘It’s Camilla and Charles,'” the designer explained. According to Jayson, the princess did wear Chanel in the past, but she became reluctant to wear the brand after her divorce.
The designer added: “It was definitely the timing, it was after the divorce. She would have seen paired C’s and they would have just reminded her of Charles and Camilla. The shoes were quite cheeky Chanel, I think they were gold. had connected Cs. And I think for photo optics, people would have tightened that up since it was so fresh after the divorce too.”
Closing out the interaction, the designer clarified that Diana had nothing against Chanel, but it was the linked C’s that she reportedly couldn’t stand.
