India registered 17,092 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours and the positivity rate was 4.14 percent. The pandemic has affected millions of people and the disease is not yet fully contained. People with neurological conditions are curious as to whether COVID-19 can affect the brain if infected by the disease, as many people affected by Covid-19 have witnessed stroke and seizures. However, the experts suggest there is no concrete evidence to pinpoint Covid-19 infections with its impact on the brain.
dr. Gaurav Kesari, neurosurgeon at Sarvodaya Hospital in Faridabad, said cerebral infarction and seizures have been found in some patients infected with COVID-19. However, no concrete research has yet emerged on this. So it’s hard to say that there could be brain-related problems as a result of COVID-19.
He also suggested that if infected individuals also suffer from neurological problems, they may need to be extra careful. The patients should take their medications on time and consult the doctors if they find any other symptoms.
dr. Amit Kumar, doctor at Goyal Hospital in Faridabad, said the maximum effect of COVID-19 on the lungs is seen. When the infection spreads to the lungs, there is a lack of oxygen that is delivered to the other parts of the body. It also affects other organs, such as the kidneys and heart. No proven research to date has shown its effect on the brain. He mentioned that symptoms such as headaches have been reported in some patients.
According to the experts, to avoid contamination with COVID-19, people should follow government guidelines and wear masks in public places, use disinfectants and social distancing. They also advised people to stay fit and eat a healthy diet rich in vitamin C.
