Heartburn is an extremely uncomfortable condition that causes chest pain accompanied by a feeling of tightness. It is a very common problem and many people often suffer from heartburn. Although it is colloquially called “heartburn,” it has nothing to do with the heart.
Some of the symptoms are very similar to the signs of a stroke or heart attack. Heartburn occurs when there is movement or irritation in the esophagus, the muscular tube that connects the throat to the stomach. When this happens, there is usually a burning sensation in the chest.
Heartburn is not a disease. This is something that occurs because of acid reflux. When the gas present in the gut begins to flow toward the throat, heartburn begins.
Heartburn Symptoms
Heartburn is characterized by:
A sudden burning sensation in the center of the chest or around the sternum.
A burning sensation creeps into the throat
Chest pain when bending or twisting
A problem swallowing food
Nausea
According to experts, heartburn starts on its own in some people and goes away on its own, while in others it can last for a few hours.
Why Does Heartburn Happen?
There is a muscular valve between the esophagus and the intestine. When it’s working properly, the stomach acids stay in the stomach, but when the valve starts to open repeatedly or doesn’t close properly, the stomach acid begins to seep up into the esophagus. This is known as acid reflux.
What Foods Cause Heartburn?
Foods that contain large amounts of fat or oil can cause heartburn. Apart from this, too many spices or foods like citrus fruits, tomatoes, citrus fruits, ginger, onions, coffee, alcohol, peppermint etc. can cause acidity.
