I’ve read a lot of Modern Love submissions about running into old crushes and high school flames online. (First love never dies, right? Especially in the digital age.)
What struck me about Sara Glass’s essay, “Please, God, help me not miss her” was not… that Mrs. Glass was reunited with an old love on Instagram. Rather, it was her acute need to confirm that her romantic experiences as a teenager actually happened.
As Ms. Glass wrote in this week’s essay, “If we played our scariest duet in a closet with no one around to hear it, would it even happen?”
