Welcome. The question is not whether it is a good weekend to make mac and cheese, but which mac and cheese recipe from this assortment of 11 you will make. I lean towards Lesley Enston’s Trinidadian macaroni pie, but Ali Slagle’s 25-minute one-pot broccoli mac and cheese is pretty tempting.
Now, to choose a movie. The nominees for the Screen Actors Guild Award were announced this week – good news for those who like to keep up to date with the favorites from the awards season. Maybe Denzel Washington, nominated for Actor in a Leading Role, in “The Tragedy of Macbeth”? It’s coming to Apple TV+ this weekend.
If you could use some mattalk, “Cheer” is back for another season on Netflix. You might check out Mark Epstein’s new memoir, “The Zen of Therapy,” which Oliver Burkeman says is “warm, profound, and clear.” Or think of the film music by Jonny Greenwood, ‘The Power of the Dog’ and ‘Spencer’.
It’s mid-January, in the midst of what — depending on the news and your mood and the sun’s slant — might start to feel like a very long winter. Fortunately, there are documentaries to stream and crosswords to solve. Thank goodness for mocktail recipes and a spring equinox countdown you can bookmark and, once you’ve chosen a recipe, mac and cheese for dinner. Let me know which one you make.
Your list of lists.
