With the world moving towards digital space every day, indoor confinement is slowly becoming the new norm. Even before the pandemic started, the age-old norms for children engaging in outdoor games and physical activities were already on the wane. Video games, in a way, give kids their daily dose of entertainment. However, participating in outdoor sports is crucial to a child’s overall physical development.
Better physical health and better social skills automatically follow when your child engages in outdoor sports and extracurricular activities. However, if you are having a hard time getting your child off their cell phone and laptop to go outside, here are some tips to try.
Let them join an outdoor group or club
Keep the child’s likes and dislikes in mind and place them in an environment with games that they will enjoy. Enroll them in a tennis club or swim coaching center or other activity. These clubs take a playful approach to educating children and automatically generate an interest in sports.
Enable friendship with other children
If your child is an introvert, help them make new friends by joining in on their own. Take your kid to the kids park, talk to other kids, introduce them to your kids and also befriend other parents if you can.
Play along
Sometimes a child wants to play outside, but does not have any friends to play with. You can take on the role of play partner and play with your child so that your child does not have to stay at home due to lack of friends.
Buy sports uniforms
You can give your child sports equipment such as cricket uniform or badminton racket and they will definitely want to go outside to show their new uniforms to their friends and play with them.
