Huma Qureshi and her brother Saqib Saleem have yet to collaborate on a project for the screen. But the actors and siblings gathered on Friday for a fashion show on their own property. The two were in Delhi to walk the ramp for designer Anvita Sharma at the Nexa show on day 3 of FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week. It was a kind of homecoming for both, born and raised in the capital.
“It feels really good to be back home in Delhi after such a long time at a fashion show on the ground, especially after covid. We are doing this after 3 years and it feels great. I really hope the worst is over and we can do more of these shows on the ground,” Huma told News18.
The siblings have known the designer for years and felt very comfortable wearing her clothes. Anvita’s show represented the current time as we transition from being indoors during the pandemic, to getting out and adjusting to the new normal.
“I’ve known Anvita since she was a fashion student. She is a friend and I fully believe in her aesthetic and style. Today’s show was more about the metamorphosis, moving with our times. My outfit is inspired by the very modern butterfly,” says Huma.
This edition of FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week also fights for body positivity, with plus-size models taking the plunge. Huma, who is making a movie with a similar theme called Double XL, said: “Yeah, I’m working on a movie about body positivity. Not just showbiz, I think society in general should be nicer to women and stop. commenting on their bodies so relentlessly. I’ve talked about it in the past and I think we need to talk about real women and real bodies, not just a stereotype of what women’s bodies should look like.”
Talking about the rare opportunity to share the driveway with her brother, she said: “Saqib is my sibling, my best friend, I feel he has a great sense of innate style, which I am very inspired by. We look really good together and we both have such different energies that we complement each other when we walk the ramp or do a photo shoot together.”
Any plans to work together? “Inshallah, you never know. We always keep working and strive to do better, so we’ll keep you posted if we have plans to work together,” she signed.
