The G20 summit will strengthen India’s image as a desirable travel destination
The G20 Summit 2023 to be held in India is poised to have a profound impact on the country’s travel industry. This high-profile event, which brings together leaders from the world’s largest economies, will not only showcase India’s ability to host international meetings but also open up a host of opportunities and challenges for the travel sector.
One of the most immediate consequences will be the increase in inbound tourism. “As India takes on the role of hosting the summit, it will attract a significant influx of international visitors, including heads of state, diplomats, business leaders and journalists. This increase in arrivals will boost the hospitality sector, with hotels, restaurants and other accommodation providers experiencing increased demand. To accommodate this influx, the industry is expected to put in its best effort, which will lead to improved infrastructure and improved services,” said Sandeep Arora, Director, Brightsun Travel Private Limited, India.
Moreover, the G20 summit will strengthen India’s image as an attractive travel destination. The global media attention and positive portrayal of the country during the event will serve as a powerful marketing tool. “Tourists visiting during the summit can extend their stay to explore India’s rich cultural heritage, historical monuments and scenic landscapes, contributing to the growth of the tourism sector,” Arora added.
On the other hand, the travel industry will also face challenges during the summit. Arora opines, “Safety measures and road closures may disrupt transportation and accessibility, potentially impacting the travel plans of both domestic and international tourists. In addition, there will be a need for increased security at tourist locations and transportation hubs, which could lead to longer wait times and inconvenience for travelers.”
In addition, increased demand for accommodation and services during the summit could result in price increases, making travel less affordable for some parts of the population. This can necessitate strategic pricing and marketing strategies to ensure travel remains accessible to a wide range of visitors.
“The 2023 G20 Summit in India will have a multi-faceted impact on the country’s travel industry. While it offers opportunities for growth and greater global visibility, it also poses challenges in logistics, security and pricing. The industry must carefully manage these dynamics to maximize the benefits of hosting this prestigious event while ensuring a positive experience for travelers,” said Arora.
