Food combinations are very essential for maintaining good health and keeping fit. It helps us to prevent many chronic non-communicable diseases such as heart problems and diabetes. It also aids in good digestion and supports weight loss. Food combination advocates that different foods have some pH levels and so some of them cannot be consumed together as they can be harmful to you. Here are some guidelines for the right food combination that is good for our health.
1. Do not combine foods with starch or sugar with those with protein or acidic fruit.
2. Eat protein, starch and fat in moderation.
3. Eat only whole, unprocessed grains (eg no white flour or refined sugar).
Recently, food therapist Dr Ria Banerjee Ankola shared a post about the importance of eating the right combinations of foods.
In the post, she said that one day not being hungry is absolutely okay and very normal. But one should not overeat and eat the right combination of foods. She also said that when we talk about food, even if it is a small amount of food, the amount of each nutrient on our plate matters.
She went on to explain with an example stating that while eating idli when one consumes the idlis alone they get hungry within an hour but when consumed idlis with sambar and chutneys it makes a person feel full for at least 3-4 hours.
she said eating idlis is like eating a large amount of rice, which is a carbohydrate, which will raise insulin levels first and make us hungry quickly. So we need to add some vegetables, proteins and good fats to help us stay full for a long time.
Therefore, it is safe to say that choosing the right combination of foods for the daily diet is very essential for everyone to stay fit and healthy.
