INTERNATIONAL FIRE DAY 2022: International Firefighters Day is commemorated on May 4. This day came into effect after a recommendation was circulated around the world by Australia on 4 January 1999 following the deaths of five firefighters braving the bushfire in the country. Below we have compiled some of the famous quotes devoted to saluting the bravery of firefighters around the world:
1. I can think of no more touching symbol of man’s humanity to man than a fire engine. † Kurt Vonnegut
2. In the fire service, we fight together against one common enemy – fire – no matter what country we come from, what uniform we wear or what language we speak. † Lieutenant JJ Edmondson
3. More often than not, a hero’s most epic battle is the one you never see; it is the struggle that takes place within him or herself. † Kevin Smith
4. Surely the bravest are those who have the clearest view of what lies ahead, glory and danger alike, and yet go forth to meet it. † Thucydides
5. If Prometheus were worthy of the wrath of heaven for lighting the first fire on earth, how should all the gods honor the men who make it their professional duty to extinguish it? † John Godfrey Saxe
6. Getting fearless is not the point. That is impossible. It’s learning how to control your fear and how to become free from it, that’s what it’s all about. Necessity of action takes away the fear of the act and makes courageous determination the favorite of fortune. † Francis Quarles
7. When a man becomes a firefighter, his greatest act of bravery is accomplished. What he does next is all in line with the work. † Edward F. Croker
8. True courage is being afraid and yet going ahead and doing your job. That’s what courage is. † General Norman Schwarzkopf
9. That’s life, being a firefighter. It’s definitely better to be a ball player. I’d rather be a firefighter. † Ted Williams, Boston Red Sox
