After garnering praise for her explicit portrayal of her role in the critically acclaimed Dasvi, Nimrat Kaur has once again made headlines for her journey into body transformation. The actress, who played Abhishek Bachchan’s real-life wife Bimla Devi, gained about 15 kg for the role. Nimrat has now written an open letter stressing the importance of minding our own business when it comes to gaining or losing weight. While dropping before and after photos of herself in a collage, the actress penned a thousand-word message while sharing her experience.
On Tuesday on her Instagram account, Nimrat posted a before and after photo of her wearing the same athleisure outfit with a white sports bra paired with multicolored floral-print tights. While the photo on the left in the collage shows the extra weight she gained for her latest comedy drama, the right one shows her after her weight loss journey. Posting the photo of herself along with her long note, she wrote in the caption: “Weigh it… Swipe left for my thousand words, this photo won’t speak.”
In the next photo, the actress opened up about how people around her reacted to her eating habit when she tried to gain weight. Nimrat began her open letter by saying: “In the age of heightened expectations regarding what we should look like at all times – gender, age and occupation no matter what, I am sharing a small chapter of my life that has lessons that will last a lifetime.”
Speaking of her body type, she added: “Born with what is typically categorized as a small to medium body type, with Dasvi, the requirement came for me to take ‘bigger’. The idea is to be as unrecognizable and as physically different as possible.” to be of ‘Being Nimrat’ There was no target figure in mind but by the end of my attempt to achieve the desired visual impact I was just over 15 pounds off my usual body weight Initially I was quite terrified of an unseen reality that I should own and embrace, but as I steadily and lovingly began the right conversations with myself along with the support and encouragement of my loved ones around me, I began to enjoy the process of becoming Bimla.”
While slamming those around her who judged her on this trip, she said, “Some people around me felt they had a right to comment on what they thought I was doing wrong. It would be a hateful comment.” , an inappropriate joke, or just some unsolicited advice about what I should eat instead of a dessert I really enjoyed. This voyeuristic license and rightful consent are what came to the fore.”
In her heartbreaking lengthy letter, Nimrat also addressed the trolls, saying, “I would purposely not always explain the ‘why’ behind how I looked or was consuming. But I always saw the ease with which people turned my ‘bigger than normal’ body and/or meal into their business. I could have been unwell, on medication, hormonally battling something, or just really happy to eat and be myself, no matter how big that was.”
The actress concluded by saying, “This whole exercise has taught me as a girl and as an actor how unnegotiable it is for any of us to just mind our own business. Now that I have completed the circle of this journey and physically myself again I learned today in the truest sense how not to let an outside perspective define my relationship with me Be kind Be sensitive Be gracious Don’t make someone’s day worse if you can’t make it better Be responsible Make your mind and body your business, no one else’s.”
Meanwhile, Bollywood recently witnessed actresses like Kriti Sanon and Richa Chaddha opening up to their weight loss journey, with both actresses emphasizing the healthy aspect of life rather than the beauty standards.
