SHARDIYA NAVRATRI 2022: The 8th day of Navratri is observed as Ashtami Tithi or Mahashtami Vrat. The 8th form of Navdurga- Goddess Mahagauri is worshiped today. According to Hindu mythology, goddess Shailputri was extremely beautiful and fair-skinned at the age of 16. Because of her light complexion, she became known as goddess Mahagauri. She is also compared to the conch, the moon and the white flower of Kunda. The mountain of goddess Mahagauri and goddess Shailputri is a bull and hence they are known as Vrisharudha.

Goddess Mahagauri is depicted with four hands, with a Trishul in one right hand and Abhaya Mudra in the second right hand. She holds a Damaru in one left hand and holds the second left hand in Varada Mudra.

MAHAGAURI PUJA DATE AND TIME
The Durga Ashtami begins on October 2 at 6:47 PM and ends on October 3 at 4:37 PM. The times for Sandhi Puja are from 4:13 PM to 5:01 PM.
If you want to do Saraswati Pradhan Puja, the timing for Purva Ashadha Puja Muhurat is from 7:31 AM to 1:09 PM on October 3.

- Maha Durgashtami is the second day and one of the most important days of Durga Puja.

- On this day, people also perform Kumari Puja.
