RAMADAN 2022: The holy month of Ramadan is one of the most important times for the Muslim community around the world. The holy month began on April 2, which will end on May 2 with the celebration of Eid-al-Fitr the following day. During this one-month period, followers of Islam observe fasting or Roza. Those who observe Roza during Ramadan wake up early in the morning for their first meal or sehri, and in the evening they break their fast with a meal called iftar.
The month of Ramadan is auspicious and holy for all believers of Islam. The strict fast means that you do not drink water during the day and do not eat anything. Therefore, it is only during sehri and iftar that one can eat and gain the energy to observe the strict fast.
The dates of this holy month depend on the lunar calendar and vary every year. Ramadan falls in the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and begins as soon as the crescent moon is observed.
If you observe Roza during this period, here are the times for sehri and iftar for Wednesday and Thursday:
Wednesday: Iftar timing is 6:50 PM
Thursday: Sehri timing is 4:26 am; Iftar timing is 6:50 PM
The end of the month of Ramadan is marked by Eid-al-Fitr when people break their fast and celebrate with a feast.
It should be noted that Ramadan or Ramzan as it is called in some places comes from the Arabic word ‘ramad’ which means scorching heat of the sun. Followers of the Islamic religion believe that Allah revealed the Holy Quran to the Prophet Muhammad during this period. Fasting is observed by the faithful to remember and commemorate this sacred revelation. During Ramadan, believers are said to give the highest priority to spiritual cleansing.
