Meaning of Rank Teras
Like most Hindu festivals, Rang Teras has been around for centuries and is celebrated with great fervor in Northern India every year. In the Mewar region of Rajasthan, large colorful tribal fairs are organized where tribes from neighboring regions come to celebrate Rang Teras to express their joy over the harvest of wheat. The day has great significance in Sri Krishna temples, especially in those regions where Lord Krishna is worshiped as ‘Srinathji’. Devotees from different countries, even from ISKCON (International Society of Krishna Consciousness), come together to witness this grand festival.
Moreover, in the Nathdwara region of Rajasthan, this festival is celebrated with great passion. In the Udaipur region of Rajasthan, Rang Teras is also celebrated by the locals of Rundera village with the performance of ‘Ghair’, a special dance art. In this performance, a group of elderly people play ‘Nagadas’ (a traditional musical instrument) and young men try to compete with the rhythm of the music playing with bamboo sticks and swords.
