The fashion industry is making an effort to be the change and when the change is about compassion, it deserves to be rewarded. Every year, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India celebrates the work of celebrities, designers and brands who have made a difference with their vegan and cruelty-free fashion choices, with the Vegan Fashion Awards.
This year, PETA India’s Vegan Fashion Awards named actor Shraddha Kapoor as the best vegan fashion style icon. Shraddha Kapoor is known for her love of animals, the environment and vegan fashion and for being stylish and beautiful, inside and out.
When asked what makes Shraddha Kapoor the perfect winner, Monica Chopra, PETA India manager of fashion, media and celebrity projects, says: “Shraddha Kapoor saves animals not only by keeping them off her plate, but also by keeping them off her feet. by refusing to wear their skin. Her commitment to helping animals by being a conscious consumer has earned her PETA India’s Best Vegan Fashion Style Icon award. Shraddha’s decision not to use leather would also help animals in other ways by inspiring her fans.”
Designers and brands across India are meeting the growing demand for vegan fashion and helping transform the industry into a multi-billion dollar industry. That is why couturier JJ Valaya, Dia Mirza-backed Greendigo and Anjana Arjun-backed Sarjaa, among others, have won major awards. “PETA India celebrates those involved in vegan fashion, making India and the rest of the world a kinder place for animals,” says Monica Chopra, adding, “From Sarjaa’s innovative apple leather bags to Metro’s sorbet-colored sandals, the winners of this year, animal materials are eschewed in favor of innovative, modern textiles.”
Here is the list of the 2022 Vegan Fashion Awards winners:
- Best Vegan Fashion Moment: Designer JJ Valaya launches his eco-friendly collection for JJV, made from TENCEL Luxe vegan silk.
- Best vegan fashion style icon: Actor Shraddha Kapoor, for her love of animals, the environment and vegan fashion and for her stylish and beautiful appearance.
- Best Vegan Shoe Line: The Tie-Dye Collection from Metro Shoes, made from comfortable cruelty-free materials that are kinder to the planet.
- Best Vegan Sneakers: Spicy, coarse and leather-free sneakers from 7-10.
- Best Vegan Kids Clothes Brand: Model Dia Mirza supported Greendigo and offers vegan, organic and chemical-free clothing for children.
- Best Vegan Sarees: Tata-owned Taneira’s Vegan Visions collection of exquisite, silk-free sarees in collaboration with TENCEL Luxe.
- Best Vegan Cosmetics: W for Woman’s W Beauty, a vegan makeup range, cruelty free, to combine with its timeless women’s clothing.
- Best Vegan Bags: Sarjaa’s fashionable vegan bags are made of vegetable leather – apple, cactus and pineapple, a brand founded by Anjana Arjun, daughter of actor Arjun Sarja.
- Best Vegan Wallets: Foret’s wallets for all genders are made of light, innovative and highly durable cork.
- Best Vegan Film for Fashion: Documentary Slay, which exposes the abuse of animals by the fashion industry and exposes the exploitation of tannery workers in India by the leather industry.
