Siblings Day was first celebrated in 1996 after Claudia Evart created the holiday in 1995 after losing her only siblings.
Siblings: History
New Yorker Claudia Evart, the founder of the Siblings Day Foundation, lost her brother Alan and sister Lisette at a young age. It was in 1995 when she founded the day. April 10 was chosen as the date to honor and celebrate the importance of siblings as it also marked the birthday of Evart’s late sister Lisette.
The Siblings Day Foundation aims to give recognition to the day at the federal level. With help from the United Nations, Claudia’s organization is also working to establish an International Day of Brothers and Sisters.
Siblings: Meaning
A sibling is an important and integral part of one’s life and sometimes we forget to express this feeling. India celebrates Siblings Day every year in the form of Raksha Bandhan, where sisters tie a rakhi or band around their brother’s wrist. The day is meant to honor and appreciate the presence of siblings in a person’s life.
