To prepare for the festivities, try out new hairstyles and makeup. Putting on different hairstyles for every day can cause significant damage to our hair
Card parties, office drinks, lunches and those parties that go on into the wee hours is what defines Diwali for us. To prepare for the festivities, try out new hairstyles and makeup. Putting on new and different hairstyles every day can cause significant damage to our hair, duh! No brainwashing! When it comes to styling our hair, we usually look for rollers, curling irons and straighteners.
Worried about what will happen to your hair after the festivities? Amy Johnson, Global Lead Stylist, Dyson shares valuable advice for you to stay on top of your hair game during the holidays without extreme heat damage, leaving you with smooth locks to show off.
- Mechanical damage is the most common form of hair damage. This can be done by brushing, towel drying or repeatedly running the fingers through the hair. Hair is also weaker when wet because the hydrogen bonds that contribute to its strength are disrupted by water, making the hair even more prone to damage. It is best not to brush the hair when it is wet and do not leave the house with wet hair – dry it first with a hair dryer at a comfortable temperature.
- Extreme heat can damage your hair, so choosing the right temperature is paramount when styling.
- A pro tip for drying your hair: If you’re not sure about using a blow dryer and brush, try the Dyson Airwrap multi-styler with one of the smoothing brush heads (firm bristles for thick or coarse strands or soft bristles for finer/ thinner hair) on freshly washed hair for a quick and easy blow-dry look.
- Dividing your hair into sections while styling can be a game changer. The smaller the section you are working with, the more manageable to style your hair. Those with fine hair should try larger sections to avoid over-drying and smaller sections will work wonders for smoothing or defining those with thick, coarse and curly hair.
- To get a voluminous finish, especially for those with flat hair at the roots, blow dry against the flow of the hair. After styling, smooth a small amount of your favorite styling product through your hair for extra shine.
- Whether chemically dyed or natural hair, high temperatures can alter its appearance. Making the color look faded and dull, or even a different color. Go for hair tools that minimize extreme heat
- A leave-in conditioner is the best way to fight moisture.
