What a passport lacks in size, it undeniably more than makes up for in shape. It not only takes you places but is also a key to prove your citizenship. And therefore, nothing can be more terrifying than losing it, being stolen, or so damaged that it is useless while traveling. Moreover, imagine the above mentioned scenarios at the time when you are far away from a consulate that can help you get back without a terrifying affair. So how do we keep our passports safe on our travels?
Since prevention is key, and there is certainly no method to prevent it from being stolen, you can still prevent it. And with the same in mind, we’ve rounded up a few tips to make sure your passport stays safe:
Make copies
Even before you travel, make several copies of your passport and keep them all in different bags just in case. To ensure the safety of the Z category, keep it in the bottom of your bags. Also, be sure to leave one copy at home.
Leave it at your hotel
Once you have reached your destination, you must leave your passport at your hotel and carry one copy of the same passport with you instead. Usually hotels provide a safe with a security code. Use it to protect your passport.
Passport cover
If you’re a travel enthusiast, you should invest in a good waterproof passport cover, especially if you have a beachy or wetter destination on your wish list. Needless to say, water damage can render the information-based pages unreadable, forcing your passport to be replaced.
Know your rights
Of course you will need your passport to clear airport security. But you should be aware of the places where you need to show your real passport and copy. If you are in possession of an international driver’s license, in most cases your driver’s license or a copy of your passport will suffice.
