WHO celebrated its 45th founding day on May 31, 2004, when it was decided that the day would be known in the future as World Digestive Health Day (WDHD). The day also marks the beginning of a year-long cycle of WHO public health awareness campaigns.
World Digestion Day: Meaning
WHO has 117 member associations around the world and contributes to the World Digestive Health Day initiative. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), millions of people around the world are dealing with some or other stomach-related problems. WHO has set goals through various scientific programs, poster presentations, exhibitions and hands-on workshops to create general awareness about dealing with such stomach problems.

The theme of this year’s World Digestion Day is ‘Colorectal Cancer Prevention: Back on Track’. According to the WHO, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death in the world. WHO has decided to promote the importance of the disease through awareness campaigns and annual public advocacy. The organization will also pay attention to ways to prevent CRC and techniques to reduce the risk of contracting it.
