WORLD DIGESTIVE HEALTH DAY 2022: On May 29, we celebrate World Digestive Health Day (WDHD). Each year, this day focuses on a specific digestive disease or disorder to raise public awareness about its prevention, prevalence, diagnosis, management, and treatment.
In addition, the World Gastroenterology Organization (WHO) organizes it in collaboration with the WHO Foundation (WHOF). The theme of WDHD 2022 is “Colorectal Cancer Prevention: Getting Back on Track”.
Digestive problems are among the most common medical problems worldwide. Almost everyone must have experienced digestive problems at some point in their life, such as an upset stomach, gas, heartburn, nausea, constipation, or diarrhea.
On this World Digestion Day, here are some tips that can help with digestion:
- Eat homemade food
One of the enemies of the digestive system is packaged foods, processed foods or preservatives. This food weakens the digestive system. So eat only fresh, homemade food. You can also add curd, buttermilk and kefir to your meal as they contain good bacteria that aid digestion. - Eat a high fiber diet
It helps to empty your stomach if you get enough fiber. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables as they are high in fiber that aids in bowel movements and digestion. - Reset with a Detox
Regular gentle detoxes can be a great way to reset your digestive system. Drinking warm water with lemon juice can help with digestion. Likewise, you can also boil some carrom seeds in water and drink the extract to aid digestion. - Reduce your stress
Prolonged stress and anxiety affect the digestive system. Therefore, adequate sleep is required for better digestion. However, do not lie down or sleep immediately after eating. It is recommended to take a slow walk of about 10 minutes after eating to aid digestion. - Chew your food
Chewing food is very good for digestion. Eating slowly and thoroughly gives these enzymes enough time to digest the food and send signals to the rest of the gut to prepare for the incoming food.
