WORLD RAINFOREST DAY 2022: Although social media and global headlines have been awash this year with issues such as the war between Ukraine and Russia, economic turmoil and the impact of the coronavirus, the triple planetary crisis such as climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss is still not over. It has yet to be recognized and for that, World Rainforest Day is celebrated annually on June 22. It is a concerted effort to advance knowledge and inspire action to conserve our rainforests.
The rainforests are considered one of the Earth’s most valuable resources, as the Amazon rainforests alone provide 20 percent of the oxygen we breathe. So on World Rainforest Day, read a few steps we can take to protect our rainforests:
- Support organizations that work for it
You can start taking the baby steps. And the first step would be to help and support those organizations that are working in this direction. There are many great charities that are committed to protecting the rainforests of the world. You can help them by donating money or by spreading awareness about it.
- Reduce your ecological footprint
The next step would be to end or at least try to reduce your carbon footprint. You can do this by using less electronics, traveling in public vehicles or cycling, not using plastic and planting more and more saplings around us.
- Consuming meatless meals
Livestock farming leads to a great deal of deforestation and many rainforests are being destroyed in an attempt to make room for the farm.
- Choose products that give back
While it’s best to buy less, there are companies that donate to different environmental causes with every purchase. It is better to be associated with such brands.
- Buy responsible products
Many companies sell products that are responsibly sourced or made from recycled materials. Such products can make a major contribution to reducing tropical deforestation.
