Vatican CITY:
Pope Francis on Monday urged the international community to ramp up Covid vaccination, saying “reality therapy” was needed to combat “baseless information”, deterring people from getting stung.
The Argentine pope, who previously described vaccinating as “an act of love,” urged governments to ensure everyone around the world had access to vaccines.
“Often people allow themselves to be influenced by the ideology of the moment, often supported by baseless information or poorly documented facts,” he told members of the Vatican’s diplomatic corps.
“The pandemic, on the other hand, is pushing us to take a kind of ‘reality therapy’ that confronts us with the problem and uses appropriate remedies to solve it,” the 85-year-old said.
While vaccines were “not a magic cure,” they were “certainly…the most reasonable solution for disease prevention,” Francis said.
But he pointed out that the plan to give everyone in the world equal access to vaccines currently remains “an illusion”.
