Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin sparked fresh controversy when he remarked at the wedding event of DMK MLA Sabha Rajendran that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is a ‘poisonous snake’. Stalin, a DMK MLA, faced criticism from the BJP leaders for his comments on Sanatan Dharma.
Udhayanidhi’s comments come at a time when political bickering over Sanatan Dharma is intensifying as BJP leaders and the saffron party’s allies intensify their attack on the Tamil Nadu chief minister.
According to a report from India today, an unfazed Udhaynidhi Stalin also called rival AIADMK a “trash that protects snakes” at the wedding event. . Unless you clear the bushes, the snake will keep returning to your house,” the report quoted Udhayanidhi Stalin as saying.
“Now if we compare this with the current situation, I consider Tamil Nadu as our home, the poisonous snake as the BJP and the garbage near our home as the AIADMK. Unless you pick up the trash, you can’t keep it. the poisonous snake away. To get rid of the BJP, you have to eliminate the AIADMK too,” he added.
Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday demanded to know the main opposition party AIADMK’s stand on Sanatan Dharma as former Chief Minister and Dravidian ideologue CN Annadurai had strongly opposed it.
The minister reiterated his claim that the BJP is only involved in ‘spreading fake news’ and demanded the stand of the main opposition AIADMK, an ally of the BJP, on the issue.
“Their party’s name has Anna’s name and no one spoke against Sanatan more than Anna and I would like to know their (AIADMK) opinion; when you meet AIADMK leaders, ask for their views,” he told reporters here.
The DMK youth wing chief, Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, promised to take legal action on all matters in this regard.
Notably, previous DMK Deputy General Secretary A Raja had compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a ‘snake’. According to an India Tpday report, former Union Minister A Raja compared Prime Minister Modi to a snake. “Everyone is ready to defeat the snake called Modi, but no one has the antidote for a snake bite. They all come closer with sticks, but they are afraid of being bitten by the snake. No one has a cure for that.”
Stalin has refused to succumb to the BJP’s incessant attacks and has joked about his comment that Sanatan Dharma must be eradicated, not just fought. Udhayanidhi Stalin on microblogging platform ‘X’ replied to the ongoing row on Sanatan Dharma with an image of a mosquito repellent. Udhayanidhi’s comments come even as the

An unperturbed Udhayanidhi accused Modi and his party leaders of using Sanatan as a ploy to divert attention, and reiterated that the BJP was distorting his comment as inciting genocide.
He said, “What is surprising is that the Union government ministers like Amit Shah and the Chief Minister of States ruled by the BJP are demanding action against me on the basis of fake news.”
In fairness, Udhayanidhi said he had to file criminal cases against them for spreading defamation.
The Tamil Nadu minister asserted that his party respected all religions that taught equality and that “we are not enemies of any religion.” For the past nine years, “Modi has done nothing,” Udhayanidhi alleged, describing Modi as “Union Prime Minister Thiru Modi.”
