The central government which has published a set of two booklets tracing the history of India back to 6000 B.C. Two booklets – Bharat, The Mother of Democracy and Elections in India were presented to the dignitaries at the G20 summit.
One of the booklets stated that Akbar introduced the doctrine of “Sulh-i-Kuli i.e. universal peace as an instrument against religious discrimination”.
“To create a harmonious society, he proposed a new syncretic religion known as ‘Din-i-llahi’ or divine faith. He also established the ‘Ibadat Khana (House of Worship)’ where wise men from various sects met and debated. A group of nine wise people known as Navaratna served as his counselors as he carried out his pro-man plans,” the booklet said.
“Akbar’s democratic thinking was unusual and ahead of its time,” the report said.
The booklet tells how in Bharat, that is India, the vision or will of the people in governance has been central to life since the earliest recorded history.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Wednesday took a swipe at the government over a G20 booklet praising Mughal Emperor Akbar, claiming it has one face for the world and another for “India, that is Bharat” .
Sibal quoted a G20 booklet titled “Bharat: The Mother of Democracy”, the 38th page of which is about Akbar.
“Good governance should embrace the well-being of all, regardless of religion. That was the kind of democracy that the third Mughal Padishah Akbar practiced,” the booklet said.
Taking a swipe at the government, Sibal said on X: “G20 Magazine: The government hails Mughal Emperor Akbar as a supporter of peace and democracy! One face: for the world another: for India it is Bharat! Please inform us about the real mann ki baat!”
