Rajasthan BJP MLA Kailash Meghwal has been suspended from the party ahead of the crucial Rajasthan Assembly elections, scheduled to take place later this year. In August, Kailash Meghwal, former Speaker of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly and national vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), called Union Law Minister Arjun Meghwal the ‘corrupt number 1’. The BJP MLA had said he would write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expel him from the Cabinet.
Kailash Meghwal had also alleged that Arjun Meghwal had many corruption cases against him and was “taking money from everyone” when the Union minister was still an officer.
On Wednesday, Kailash Meghwal had doubled down on his allegations against Arjun Meghwal and said that there is factionalism in the BJP. Kailash Meghwal alleged that there is ‘gutbaazi’, or factionalism, within the BJP’s Rajasthan unit.
“BJP mein oopar se neeche gut (From top to bottom there are divisions in the BJP),” he stated, according to a NDTV report.
The report further quoted the suspended BJP MLA, alleging that senior BJP leaders such as former Rajasthan BJP unit chief Satish Poonia have targeted people close to former Prime Minister Vasundhara Raje.
“Vasundhara ke login ko chunn chunn ke khatam kiya jaa raha hai“(The people of Vasundhara have been chosen and destroyed),” said Kailash Meghwal. According to Live HindustanKailash Meghwal alleged that a ‘conspiracy’ is being hatched to eliminate the Vasundhara Raje camp.
Kailash Meghwal in particular is considered a heavyweight of the former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje camp.
BJP had issued a notice to Kailash Meghwal and sought his response within 10 days when he accused Arjun Meghwal in August. However, Kailash Meghwal held another press conference in Jaipur on Wednesday where he alleged factionalism in the Rajasthan BJP, which earned the saffron party’s contempt along with a suspension.
“I’m being ignored. I went from ‘hero’ to ‘zero’. I am not in any yatra of the BJP,” the suspended BJP MLA said at the press conference on Wednesday.
However, it appears that prosecutor Meghwal has received a blow from his own party, a move similar to the Rajasthan Congress. The rival political parties could have one common method of taking care of their party members. Congress leader and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had suspended Rajendra Gudha from the Cabinet after he questioned ‘women’s safety’ in Rajasthan and alleged that the CM Gehlot and his son were corrupt in the Legislative Assembly. Gudha last week joined Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.
Whether the BJP can benefit from the alleged internal feud of the Rajasthan Congress or whether the Congress can benefit from the alleged factionalism and internal unrest of the Rajasthan BJP remains to be seen in the crucial elections to the Rajasthan Assembly.
