Hours after All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) passed a resolution announcing severing ties with the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Tamil Nadu BJP leader CT Ravi said: ‘Under leadership of K Annamalai a great effort is being made to strengthen the party’.
The decision to break away from the NDA was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by party chief Edappadi K Palaniswami at the AIADMK headquarters. Friction arose between the saffron party and AIADMK when the Tamil Nadu BJP state chief made certain comments about stalwart former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu C Annadurai and late CM J Jayalalithaa.
BJP leader CT Ravi told the news agency ANI“There are still eight months and what will happen in these months we cannot say today. It is the duty of every worker to make the party strong. Under the leadership of K. Annamalai, great work is being done to strengthen the party.”
Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai had said that Annadurai had made a critical remark against the Hindu faith at an event in Madurai in the 1950s and freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar strongly opposed it.
Earlier, K Annamalai had said during an interview that “many Tamil Nadu governments were corrupt and former chief ministers had been convicted by the courts.”

AIADMK leaders visited BJP chief JP Nadda in New Delhi and apprised him of the situation in the state arising out of the aggressive political style of saffron party Tamil Nadu chief K. Annamalai.
They had then sought Annamalai’s apology for making a comment about Dravidian stalwart CN Annadurai or that he be replaced. Briefing reporters on today’s deliberations, former minister and senior leader KP Munusamy said the party has unanimously passed a resolution to part ways with the NDA and field a combination of like-minded parties in next year’s polls.
With an ulterior motive, the AIADMK said the state BJP leadership has deliberately defamed Annadurai and late party matriarch J Jayalalithaa and incumbent leader Palaniswami. The BJP has also been critical of its policies and ‘disparaged’ the party’s Madurai conference on August 20, 2023.
Annamalai says the BJP leadership will respond
K Annamalai on Monday refused to comment on the AIADMK resolution declaring break of alliance with the BJP just a few months before the Lok Sabha elections.
“I will speak to you later. I will not speak during Yatra. I will speak later,” Annamalai told ANI when asked about the development during his ‘En Mann En Makkal’ (My Country My People) Yatra, which is currently in Coimbatore . .
According to a report, dubbed ‘rabble rouser’ by AIADMK, Annamalai said that ‘Delhi leaders will react to bifurcation’, on AIADMK’s split from the BJP-led NDA.
