In his maiden speech at the joint sitting at the New Parliament House on Tuesday, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury read out the preamble of the Indian Constitution. The Congress leader said that for us, this Constitution is nothing less than the Gita, Quran and Bible and there is no difference between India or Bharat.
“…This Constitution is to us nothing less than the Gita, the Quran and the Bible… Article 1 says: “India, i.e. Bharat, shall be a union of States…” It means that there is no difference is between India and Bharat. It will be better if no one tries to unnecessarily create a divide between the two…’ said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
“Now that I have seized this opportunity, without raising any objection and without mincing a single word, I must say that I feel exalted and elated for having stood on this stage that had witnessed a caravan of historical episodes and countless momentous events amid the galaxy of celebrities who had racked their brains and burned the midnight oil to frame the Constitution of India in this august House called the Constituent Assembly,” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said in a speech for the joint sitting of parliament.
“On January 2, 1974, the objective resolution proposed by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehruji was passed here, which inspired the formation of our Constitution. From the colonial past to independent India, we have witnessed the transition of the destiny of this great country called ‘India’. The 389 members of Parliament discussed among themselves for two years, eleven months and nineteen days and came up with the largest constitution in the world under the leadership of Baba Saheb Ambedkar, the father of the Constitution,” he added.
On the status of developing countries
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said he has no idea how a country is recognized as developed but the human development index is one of the most important determining factors. With this, he mentioned that 10% of India’s population controls 77% of the total resources.
“I have no idea how a country is recognized as a developed country. But among all developed countries, one important determinant is always followed, and that is the Human Development Index. India is lagging behind in that respect. Disturbing reports have revealed that 10% of India’s population controls 77% of India’s total wealth. In 2017, a stunning report showed that 73% of the wealth generated reportedly went to the richest 1%, while as many as 670 million Indians, who constitute the poorest, saw their wealth increase by just one percent,” the Congress leader said.
