Telangana Assembly Elections 2023: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday criticized the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and demanded ‘dissolution’ of the Congress in a scathing attack on opposition parties ahead of the Assembly elections in Telangana.
In 2018, BRS (then TRS) won 88 of the state’s 119 seats with a vote share of 47.4 percent. The Congress received 28.7 percent of the votes and won 19 seats.
The elections in Telangana for the 119-member assembly will be held on November 3 and the results will be declared on December 3.
‘Congress should have been dissolved after independence’
KT Rama Rao said the Congress was ‘the real white elephant’ that should have been dissolved after India gained independence from British colonial rule in 1947. The BRS leader said the country has suffered “for a long time” due to Congress’s “misrule and setbacks”.
KT Rama Rao reacted to Congress calling the Kaleswaram irrigation project in the state a ‘white elephant’.
“The Congress was the real white elephant of the country. People have been bearing the brunt of Congress’s misrule and misadventures for a long time,” he said.
Taking a swipe at the Congress, Rama Rao said Mahatma Gandhi was in favor of dissolving the grand old party after independence.
“Unfortunately it’s still there, so there’s a lot of inconvenience.”
Hindustani times reports that on January 27, 1948, three days before his assassination, Mahatma Gandhi had reportedly written that the Congress in its current form had “outlived its use”, should be dissolved and “grow into a Lok Sevak Sangh”.
The article appeared on February 2, 1948 in a magazine entitled ‘His Last Will and Testament’.

KT Rama Rao slams BJP over BC CM candidate’s promise
KT Rama Rao also attacked the BJP over its announcement to appoint a Backward Class (BC) leader as Telangana Chief Minister after the upcoming Assembly elections.
The BRS working president said the Center has not yet agreed to the demand to set up an OBC welfare ministry. KT Rama Rao pointed out that the BJP is replacing the state unit president who belongs to the backward classes.
He recalled that the BRS has been fueling the demand for setting up a ministry for OBCs since the time Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister.
The Telangana Legislative Assembly had passed a resolution in this regard and the BRS had demanded this in the plenary, he said.
“Narendra Modi ji belongs to the OBC. Has the condition of the BCs in this country changed in the last nine and a half years. It is not right in a democracy to think that the entire community would benefit if one person becomes prime minister or prime minister.” Prime Minister,” he said.
