Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said on Tuesday that the initial investigation points to Congress’s role in the municipal clashes that erupted in Nuh and neighboring areas, resulting in the deaths of six people. Speaking at a press conference, Anil Vij said that the initial investigation into the Nuh violence shows that “this was done by Congress.” The Haryana home minister also said that Congress MLA Mamman Khan has also been summoned for questioning in the Nuh violence case.
“Following their questioning, the conclusion we tentatively draw is that it appears that this was done by Congress. In the MLA of this Congress, Mamman Khan has also been summoned for questioning by the police on August 30… Mamman Khan has visited the areas where violence took place,” said Anil Vij.
The interior minister of Haryana also said that about 510 people have been arrested in connection with the Nuh violence. “In the first investigation, we arrested about 510 people and recorded 130 to 140 FIRs… A lot of aspects come up. We’re doing a fair investigation and we’ll show people who the brain was.”
Clashes had erupted in Nuh in Haryana and neighboring areas after a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession was attacked by a mob on 31 July, leading to the deaths of six people, including two house guards and a cleric.
Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar joked at the Congress and asked the party to break its silence after one of its MLAs received a police notice to join the investigation. CM Khattar also said some other Congress MLAs would also be involved in the violence.
“Surprisingly, Congress has passed silence and says nothing,” said Manohar Lal Khattar after the day’s session ended in the state assembly. “Despite these serious allegations, the Congress Party has maintained a silence. The lack of response from them certainly proves that ‘dal mai kuch kala hai’ (there is something suspicious.”
When a police message was sent to Mamman Khan, senior congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the party has no problem. In fact, he said, there should be a judicial inquiry into the matter, but “the Haryana government is walking away”.
When asked if Mamman Khan will appear before the police, Hooda said: “Yes, he will.”
