Foreign Minister Jaishankar has made a veiled attack on Canada at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) amid India’s row with the country over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He said “political convenience shapes responses to terrorism, extremism and violence.” Jaishankar’s attack on Canada follows Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations of a “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of the Khalistani separatist in June.
“We must also accept that political convenience determines responses to terrorism, extremism and violence. Likewise, respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in domestic affairs cannot be cherry-picking exercises. When reality differs from rhetoric, we must have the courage to speak out,” Jaishankar said during his speech at the UNGA.
