BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain suffered a cardiac arrest earlier in the evening and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. “Shahnawaz Hussain was admitted to Lilavati Hospital with a heart attack. Angioplasty has been done,” said Jaleel Parkar, Lilavati Hospital.
Shahnawaz Hussain (54) underwent the medical procedure after he “showed the development of heart attack”, said Dr Jalil Parkar, senior consultant, Lilavati Hospital. Angioplasty is a procedure performed by doctors to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels that supply blood to the heart.

“Around 4.30 pm, Hussain complained of high blood pressure. Mumbai BJP president Ashish Shelar called me before his hospitalization in Lilavati, where Hussain showed development of heart attack. Cardiologist Suresh Vijan performed angioplasty on him,” said Dr .Parkar. There was no damage to his heart muscle, he added.
Shahnawaz is one of the national spokespersons of the BJP. He was the Minister of Textiles and the Minister of Civil Aviation in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government.
