Citing reports, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge shared INDIA parties’ letter to Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, claiming that the ‘Meta is guilty of inciting social disharmony and inciting hatred in India’.
Kharge took on X (formerly Twitter) citing recent revelations from the WashingtonPost on the role of WhatsApp and Facebook in supporting the BJP-led government’s communal hate campaign. He also quoted that the article details how this despicable, divisive propaganda is being carried out using WhatsApp groups by BJP members and supporters.
He wrote: “You may be aware of the recent revelations of the WashingtonPost newspaper on the role of WhatsApp and Facebook in supporting the ruling BJP’s communal hate campaign.”

The Congress leader also quoted another report that said, ‘Under pressure from India, Facebook allowed propaganda and hate speech to flourish’.
He said: “It is very clear from this extensive investigation by the WAshington Post that Meta is guilty of inciting social disharmony and inciting communal hatred in India.
Kharge also claimed to have data showing “algorithmic moderations and suppression of opposition leaders’ content on your platform, while also promoting ruling party content.”

The Congress President made it clear in his letter that this partisanship and preference for one political formation by a private foreign company will not be taken lightly by the INDIA alliance.
In his request to Meta, Kharge – citing the 2024 Lok Sabha elections – suggested that Meta seriously consider these facts and immediately ensure that Meta’s operation in India remains neutral. He also wanted Meta to ensure that its social media sites are not knowingly or unknowingly used to create social unrest that would disrupt India’s much-cherished democratic ideas.
Incidentally, he mentioned that the letter was written on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest advocate of non-violence and social harmony in history.
