Sharad Pawar is not the Prime Minister of India, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said as he clarified that he had not asked the Nationalist Congress Party chief about his meetings with industrialist Gautam Adani.
Rahul Gandhi, at a press conference here, also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of protecting Adani. He cited a recent report from the Financial times which claimed that Adani buys coal from Indonesia and its price doubles when it reaches India.
The Congress leader further blamed Adani for rising electricity prices in India and said that citizens’ money was going into Adani’s pockets due to overpricing.
“People pay more for each unit. The figure ” ₹32,000 crore” will only increase. This is impossible without Prime Minister Modi’s patronage. Yet there is no investigation into this. Why?” said Rahul Gandhi.
He also said, “…This time the theft is happening from the pockets of the public…If you press the button for a switch, Adani will get money in his pocket…Investigation is taking place in different countries and people are asking questions, but nothing is happening in India…”
“…Adani buys coal in Indonesia and by the time the coal arrives in India, its price has doubled…Our electricity prices are going up…He (Adani) is taking money from the poorest people…This story would bring down any government. This is direct theft. If he comes to power, he will look into it,” Rahul Gandhi added.
Rahul Gandhi showed a media report on ‘Adani and the mysterious coal price hikes’ at a press conference in Delhi.
Earlier last week, the Adani Group had said that there is a renewed attempt by the British newspaper Financial times and his associates to repeat old and baseless allegations to tarnish the name and status of the Indian business conglomerate.
On October 9, Adani Group said these articles were part of an extensive campaign to promote vested interests under the guise of public interest.
“Building on their brutal campaign, the next attack is being led by Dan McCrum of the Financial Times, who, along with the OCCRP, pushed a false narrative against the Adani Group on August 31, 2023. The OCCRP is funded by George Soros, who openly declared his hostility against the Adani Group,” the Adani Group statement said.
After failing earlier, the British daily is making another attempt to financially destabilize the Adani Group by resurfacing an old, baseless allegation of over-invoicing of coal imports, the statement said.
