Using the mother-child reference, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has released a video showing the rover orbiting the moon’s surface to find a safe route to continue its adventures. The video was released a day after the Pragyan rover clicked an image of the Chandrayaan-3 Moon mission’s Vikram lander. It was recorded on August 29.
While releasing the video, ISRO wrote that it appears that a child is playfully frolicking in the courtyard of ‘Chandamama’ while the ‘mother’, referring to the Vikram lander, watches over it.
It read: “Chandrayaan-3 Mission: The rover was rotated to find a safe route. The rotation was captured by a Lander Imager Camera. It feels as if a child is playfully frolicking in Chandamama’s courtyard, while the mother watches lovingly. Is it not?”
The space agency has released a video showing an automated hinge mechanism rotating the 18 cm high APXS, aligning the detector head about two inches away from the lunar surface.
ISRO further said that the Alpha Particle X-ray Spectroscope (APXS) detected sulfur and other small elements on the moon.
“This finding of Ch-3 forces scientists to develop new explanations for the source of sulfur (S) in the area: intrinsic?, volcanic?, meteoritic?,……?” read the message.
On Wednesday, the Pragyan rover shared an image of the Vikram lander from a distance. The image shows the Vikram lander on the surface of the moon.
ISRO tweeted the photo and said, “Smile please! Pragyan Rover clicked on an image of Vikram Lander this morning. The ‘image of the mission’ was created by the Rover’s onboard navigation camera (NavCam). NavCams for the Chandrayaan-3 mission were developed by the Laboratory for Electro-Optics Systems (LEOS).
The Pragyan rover shared the progress of the Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission on Tuesday, August 29, and confirmed the presence of sulfur on the lunar surface on Tuesday, August 29.
ISRO said the Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) instrument aboard the Pragyan rover unequivocally confirmed the presence of sulfur (S) on the lunar surface near the south pole.
