The PSLV-C57 rocket carrying the Aditya L1 spacecraft has rolled out to its second launch pad in Sriharikota, India’s main space agency reported on Tuesday. ISRO noted that the Aditya L1 mission is scheduled to launch on September 2 at 11:50 am (Indian time).
In a tweet on Tuesday, ISRO said: “PSLV-C57 with #AdityaL1 has been rolled out to the second launch pad in Sriharikota!! The launch is scheduled for Saturday, September 2 at 11:50 AM IST!”
What is the Aditya L1 mission?
Announced after the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3, Aditya L1 is the first Indian mission to study the Sun. The Aditya L1 will carry seven payloads to observe the chromosphere, photosphere and outer layers of the sun (the corona) using electromagnetic and particle and magnetic field detectors.
ISRO inquired about the Aditya L1 mission and said, “The SUITs of the Aditya L1 payloads are expected to provide the most crucial information to solve the problem of coronal warming, coronal mass ejection (CME), pre-flare and flare- activities and their characteristics. , space weather dynamics, particle and field propagation etc.”
What are the objectives of the Aditya L1 mission?
The main objectives of ISRO’s first solar mission include: studying the dynamics of the sun’s upper atmosphere (chromosphere and corona); studying chromospheric and coronal heating, physics of the partially ionized plasma, initiation of the coronal mass ejections and bursts; observing the in-situ particle and plasma environment, which provides data for the study of solar particle dynamics; and physics of solar corona and its heating mechanism.
In addition, the mission also aims to study the diagnostics of the plasma of the coronal and coronal loops: temperature, velocity and density; development, dynamics and origin of CMEs; identify the sequence of processes that take place in multiple layers (chromosphere, basal and extended corona) that ultimately lead to solar outbursts; magnetic field topology and magnetic field measurements in the solar corona; and space weather drivers (solar wind origin, composition and dynamics).
