The Indian men’s hockey team had to win their last group match against Indonesia in the Asia Cup men’s hockey tournament by a huge margin of 15 goals to advance to the Super 4s round, beating the opposition 16-0. The win was enough for the Indian team to beat arch-rival Pakistan on goal difference to qualify for the next round with Japan.
Japan had defeated both India and Pakistan, along with Indonesia.
India had drawn 1-1 in the opening game against Pakistan before losing 2-5 to Japan.
This is a young Indian team in action, coached by former India captain Sardar Singh.
India stared at an early exit as the team led Indonesia 6-0 at the end of the second quarter. However, the team found brand new gear from the third quarter and kept their feet on the accelerator as they chased the goal margin to qualify for the next round.

Dipsan Tirkey was the star with 4 goals, Sudev scored a hat-trick, while Selvam, Pawan and veteran SV Sunil scored a brace in what was a magnificent win.
This is the biggest win for any team in this edition of the Asia Cup for men. There are three slots available for the upcoming 2023 FIH World Cup of this tournament. India has already qualified as host.
