Indian kabaddi players had a good day in office as both the men’s and women’s teams recorded comprehensive wins in their group matches at the Asian Games on Tuesday. Seven-time champions, the Indian men’s team started their campaign with an emphatic 55-18 win over Bangladesh in a Group A match. Later in the day, the women’s team recorded a 56-23 victory over South Korea in their second match in Group A. India, the silver medalists of the last edition, were held to a surprise 34-34 draw by Chinese in their opening match on Monday Taipei.
In their bid to regain the gold medal at the Asian Games, the Indian men’s team, who had slipped to bronze in the 2018 edition, took a 24-9 lead at half-time.
Naveen Kumar Goyat and Arjun Deshwal led their attacks in style and set up the first all-out in the 12th minute.
Bangladesh managed to apply two super tackles to Pawan Sehrawat and then Goyat in the first half, but that proved insufficient as India took a 12-point lead inside 20 minutes.
Bangladesh faltered in their raids as the Indians extended their lead in the second half and sealed the issue.
In the men’s group, India is defeated in Group A with Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Japan.
Iran, Korea, Pakistan and Malaysia form Group B.
