Australia Women captain Meg Lanning, who recently led the team to the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, is taking an indefinite hiatus from cricket, Cricket Australia (CA) announced in a statement on Wednesday. “Australia women’s team captain Meg Lanning has informed Cricket Australia (CA) that she will be taking up an indefinite period with immediate effect,” CA wrote in its statement. She will miss this year’s edition of The Hundred and a decision on her participation in the Australian home summer will be made at a later date, the board said.

“After a busy few years, I’ve made the decision to take a step back so that I can devote time to myself,” Lanning said in the statement.
“I am grateful for the support from CA and my teammates and ask that my privacy be respected during this time.”
“We are proud of Meg for recognizing that she needs a break and we will continue to support her during this time,” said Shawn Flegler, Australian Women’s Team Performance Manager.
“She has made an incredible contribution to Australian cricket over the past decade, delivering remarkable achievements both individually and as part of the team, and has been a brilliant role model for young children,” he said.
“The well-being of our players is always our number one priority and we will continue to work with Meg to ensure she has the support and space she needs.”

Lanning has two World Cup titles and four T20 World Cup titles to her name. Of these, she captained one of the 50-over campaign wins and three editions in the shortest format.
She also led Australia to ultimate glory at CWG 2022, the first time women’s T20s were included in the Games.
