Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal is likely to miss three to four weeks after injuring his right ankle during Sunday's 1-0 defeat to Leganes in La Liga.
“Tests carried out this morning revealed a grade 1 injury to an ankle ligament,” Barcelona said in a statement on Monday.
The club estimated he would be out for a maximum of four weeks, meaning he will miss Barcelona's final match of the year against Atletico Madrid on Saturday.
Barcelona will take on fourth-tier side Barbastro in the last 32 of the Copa del Rey on January 4 before traveling to Jeddah for the four-team Spanish Super Cup.
17-year-old Yamal injured his ankle during a first-half challenge against Leganes, but continued to play despite the pain until he was substituted in the 75th minute.
Barcelona remain top of La Liga despite winning just one of their last six matches, a run that has allowed Atletico to move level on points after playing one game fewer.
Real Madrid are one point behind the leading duo and also have a game in hand against Barcelona.
