All eyes are on Tim David as the big hitter gears up for his first series in Australian colors in a three-game T20I game in India, which opens on Tuesday. The Aaron Finch-led team is looking to capitalize on its amazing finishing abilities as they defend their T20 World Cup title at home starting next month. David, 26, made his T20I debut for Singapore in 2019, playing 14 games and scoring 558 runs with a strike rate of 158.52. He also impressed in patches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022.
Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena, who saw David up close with Mumbai Indians, praised the batter.
“I think he will have free range (to score free) and the good thing is there are no expectations from him,” Jayawardena told The ICC Review.
“Personally I think that’s a great space to be in. Australia has a very, very good lineup and Tim is going to bring that little bit of x factor if they want to use that on the number 6 roll, which they have a great batter and an explosive batter. So great for Australia to fall back on someone like that, who has those options.”
Recently, former Australian Matthew Hayden touted him as a “huge X-Factor” and said he has “killer instincts” in “hopes and boundaries”.
“Absolutely, I think he’s a huge X-factor. He’s a big, powerful young guy who has a power play,” Hayden said in a press conference in response to an DailyExpertNews question.

“The challenge for him will be to show it for the team in yellow and green. Once you get on that international podium, it’s a whole different ball game. You have to have that solid foundation behind you. But X factor, yes 100 percent agree,” he continued.
“If you look at the Australian team, that X factor is missing at the moment to be honest. Form of Aaron Finch is questionable, you have some other big names who are also X factors, like Maxwell, he can be both orthodox playing and unorthodox shots. Tim David, there’s nothing like power in T20 cricket,” said the legendary batter.
