Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes that Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) could try opener KL Rahul in the middle order. Rahul will open the batting for LSG in the big event since joining the side in 2022. In his first IPL season for the side, Rahul scored 616 runs in 15 matches, at an average of over 51. In the next edition, Rahul missed a noticeable number of runs. matches due to injury. He played 9 matches for LSG in IPL 2023 and scored 274 runs. Pathan praised Rahul and said he is a player who can bat in any position.
“It's a geared car in an era of automatic cars. It can shift into any gear, from first to fifth. It even has a sixth gear. So considering that, maybe it's not bad at all to make KL Rahul break the order.” Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports as quoted by Sportskeeda.
“It could be good for the team and also for him. The team combination in such a scenario could include both Quinton de Kock and Kyle Mayers. If they both get a spot, they can go with an all-Indian pace attack. ” Pathan added.
Rahul is currently battling an injury. He had complained of right quadriceps pain and therefore missed India's second Test in Visakhapatnam. While the batsman has been included in the team's remaining three matches against the Three Lions, his participation is subject to his eligibility.
“The participation of Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul is subject to the fitness clearance of the BCCI medical team,” BCCI said in the release naming the Indian squad for the remaining three Test matches against England.
The series is perfectly level at 1-1, with the third Test starting on February 15 in Rajkot.
