Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant certainly wasn’t bad with the bat in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) scoring 144 runs from five matches with a strike rate of 146.94 and an average of 36, but he hasn’t been there either. destructive best-looking, as he has tried to play with a more cautious approach when hitting. However, former India coach Ravi Shastri thinks he should forget about hitting responsibly and just play free, because that brings out the best in him. He also said it would also help him better captain of the side.
“What I’d like to see with Delhi is Rishabh Pant come and play his natural game. Forgetting he’s the captain of the squad, just let him play his natural game,” Shastri said as he spoke about the Gameplan episode on Star sports.
“Let the others around him take responsibility because if he fires it will do his captaincy a world of good and at the same time you will see the results for Delhi Capitals change quite quickly,” he added.
Shastri went on to say that there were no issues hitting Pant, but a change of mindset was needed.
“I don’t think there’s a problem with his percussion. I think it’s just a change of mentality that’s needed, where he goes out and asks to give himself some time and then go for it,” he said.
“There are no half measures. The Rishabh Pant you know is Rishabh Pant where there are no half measures. He plays the risky shots, he takes his chances and you want him to play that way because that’s what’s best brings out in him,” he concluded.
Delhi Capitals will face Punjab Kings in their next match at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday.
